Default Such a selection would tell much about the selector.

When does "modern" start? What area of physics? Does "greatest" refer to genius, insight, influence, overall wisdom beyond physics, importance of work, ability to communicate to others, et cetera? Such could include many different persons . . . and exclude many that would seem obvious choices.

Should big mistakes offset great accomplishments? Or, must there be any accomplishment at all beyond a life's work.

Or, after considering all of the above, if one person should be "picked," that selection would more than likely reflect more about the person "picking" rather than the person "picked."
